The free version of Crytek's CryEngine 3 SDK has been downloaded more than 300,000 times since its release just over two weeks ago.
The free downloadable SDK was launched in August
for non-commercial purposes, and within a week had seen over 100,000 downloads
Since then, the engine from Crysis
series developer Crytek has seen a similarly steady surge of attention, with over 300,000 downloads
in the last 16 days, reports news site Develop.
The engine is completely free for non-commercial use, but studios that sell games using the engine will have to share 20 percent of all revenues with Crytek.
Crytek's Carl Jones explained back at launch, "This SDK contains more toys than we've ever released before -- it empowers people to create whole new games from scratch, not just mod Crytek’s own games, so we encourage all aspiring and indie developers to try it out."
