Epic's Bleszinski: Shadow Complex 2 'Largely Designed,' Looking For Partner Exclusive

Speaking to Gamasutra, Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski said the sequel to Chair's 2009 downloadable Xbox Live Arcade hit Shadow Complex is "largely designed," and Epic and Chair are looking for a partner to help finish it up.

"Shadow Complex 2 is sitting there, it's actually largely designed, we just need to find a partner that will help us to finish it so we can bring it to market," Bleszinski said.

The news follows on a recent Gamasutra interview in which Epic president Mike Capps revealed that Shadow Complex 2 had been shelved so Epic subsidiary Chair could focus on developing an entirely new title for iOS, Infinity Blade, which went on to be a top-grosser on the mobile platform.

"Looking back on that decision today it seems like an exceptionally smart one," Capps said. "But 12 months ago it was a very different story and certainly didn't look like a surefire winning strategy to a lot of people."

In his interview, Bleszinski added that Epic was originally considering a more straightforward port of Shadow Complex to iOS, but that the company decided a totally new product would be a better use of immediate resources.

"We needed a flagship product for iOS, plain and simple," Bleszinski said. "And we could have ported Shadow Complex, but it would have been a lot of work and it might not have been the right fit. And then Donald Mustard suggested Punch Out!! with swords with RPG layers and we were like, 'Yes!'"

The full interview with Bleszinski will be available on Gamasutra Monday.

Co-worker just blurted out a good idea, re: Shadow Complex 2 in limbo:

Wrap it up, port it to Windows, and sell it on Steam yourselves. It will move like hotcakes.

In the meantime, perhaps as a side-effect to the Steam announcement, an XBLA version would quickly sort itself out.

There has to be a reason why they won't, perhaps that is what is keeping publishers away from it?

BTW, cheesy photo there, Cliff.

@Tim Hesse: that's the only kind of photos you'll get from him. And it's not limited to photos. Declarations, also.

To everybody who is eventually responsible for the release of Shadow Complex 2: "get cracking! :)" I just freaking loved Shadow Complex.
