The organizers of the Tokyo Game Show have announced that this year's show saw record attendance of 222,668 people across the four-day event.

Andriasang reports the attendance number, which adds up daily attendance reports across two public days and two press/business-only days, is up 7 percent from last year's attendance of over 207,000 attendees, which was itself a record.

The number also includes a new record for single day attendance of 86,251 on Saturday, Sept. 17, the first day the show was open to the public. Attendance on Sunday was down only slightly to 83,744.

Earlier this year, there were some concerns that the Tokyo Game Show would have to scale back in size following the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit the country in March.

In June, show organizers announced they were reducing power consumption by 25 percent to help prevent strain on the still-damaged electrical grid.

Tokyo Game Show attendance still finished behind that for Germany's five-day Gamescom show, which saw a record 275,000 attendees this year to cement its position as the world's largest video game-related show.

The 2012 Tokyo Game Show will run from September 20 through 23 at the same Makuhari Messe convention center location.

Interesting that earlier today, Gama news said the event was getting smaller. Is it too hasty to say supply is not meeting demand? Did the bulk of people attend because of Vita?
