EA Hires 15-Year Microsoft Vet Rajat Taneja As New Global CTO

Former Microsoft executive Rajat Taneja has joined Electronic Arts as the company's new global chief technology officer, EA revealed Thursday.

Taneja leaves behind Microsoft after a 15-year stint that most recently saw him as the vice president of its commerce division. Taneja led the division that deployed commerce and transaction tech for products that include Xbox Live, Windows Phone, Microsoft Office 365 and MSN, among others.

At EA, Taneja will be responsible for overseeing the company's global technology decisions and investments.

"Gaming is at a technological confluence that is almost unprecedented, where commerce, online delivery of content and services and multiple engagement platforms are converging," Taneja said in a statement.

"It's an exciting time to join EA, where they are clearly executing against a vision to lead the industry through this transition and deliver the best content to consumers."

Taneja does not appear to be replacing anyone at the company, as the position of global CTO does not seem to have existed at EA prior to today's announcement. Electronic Arts did not immediately respond to a request for clarification.
