Epic Games and Microsoft's Gears of War 3 launched to the top of the UK software sales charts last week, with the biggest launch of the year in the UK so far.

For the week ended September 24, data from tracking firm Chart-Track noted that Gears of War 3 nearly sold as many copies in its opening weekend as the previous two titles in the series did in their opening weekends combined.

Overall, it was the seventh largest Xbox 360 launch to date in the UK, and the twelfth over all platforms.

The other new release to enter the top 10, Codemasters' F1 2011, took the second spot just below Epic Games' behemoth. Elsewhere, Dead Island was knocked down from the top spot to third place.

Zumba Fitness still refuses to leave the top 10, jumping back up to number four, while the likes of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Driver: San Francisco hung around at positions five and six.

Below are Chart-Track's all-platforms sales charts, which include unit sales of all versions of a given title, and the individual platform charts, which treat individual SKUs separately.

UK All-Platforms Top 10

1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft)
2. F1 2011 (Codemasters)
3. Dead Island (Deep Silver)
4. Zumba Fitness (505 Games)

6. Driver: San Francisco (Ubisoft)
7. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (THQ)
8. Resistance 3 (SCE)
9. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney)
10. Rugby World Cup 2011 (505 Games)

UK Individual Platforms Top 10

Gears of War took first place in Chart-Track's individual formats top 10 chart, holding off both versions of F1 2011.

Dead Island dropped down the chart, with sales down 54 percent over both versions. Zumba Fitness saw an increase in sales, up 7 percent compared to last week.

1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft, Xbox 360)
