Augmented reality technology company Total Immersion has released a new free-to-download version of its D'Fusion Studio tools, with state-of-the-art AR technology included.
The package allows users to make use of multiplatform features, such as markerless tracking -- including face-tracking -- and a single authoring environment and single set of assets to maximize the efficiency of use.
D'Fusion Studio's users can also make use of the package's ability to recognize an image from a target data store of up to 1,000 images, while still maintaining the same recognition time.
The free version of the tools can be used for non-commercial purposes to create games and applications for iOS, Android, browser and Kinect.
Bruno Uzzan, CEO at Total Immersion, explained to Gamasutra, "Augmented Reality is an emerging technology still in its infancy. To produce a game which incorporates AR takes a usable platform."
"Total Immersion is one of only a handful of companies that can provide this. However, ours is an easy to use, easy to build, efficient platform in which game developers can build their imaginative ideas onto."
On the topic of price, Uzzan noted, "We feel a responsibility to ensure the proliferation and standardization of AR into the community of game developers and player."
"It's now possible for game developers to explore the capabilities and experiment with the D’Fusion software for non-commercial purposes of D'Fusion free of charge. By removing the initial fee, we hope to remove any barrier to trial, and that developers are inspired to enhance their applications by adding augmented reality."
