Portal 2 Sees Map Editor Next Year

Portal 2 Sees Map Editor Next Year

October 21, 2011 | By Frank Cifaldi

Players of Valve's Portal 2 will be able to create and share custom levels next year.

According to Valve, the next add-on for the game will feature "an easy-to-use in-game map editor" that will will allow users to "design, build and share their own single-player and co-op test chambers with the community."

The update will be the second for Portal 2. The first, Peer Review, was released weeks ago. That update continued the story begun in the retail game's co-op campaign, and added challenge maps for the single-player mode.

It is unknown if, like Peer Review, this upcoming release will be available for free. Valve did not immediately respond to requests for clarification.

Portal 2 was released April 19. It is the recipient of multiple awards, most recently the Golden Joystick Award for "Ultimate Game of the Year."

Portal series creator Kim Swift is currently at work on a spiritual successor, called Quantum Conundrum, at Airtight Games.
