Digital content network Alliance numerique and the Canadian Interactive Alliance have announced the winners of the Canadian Game Development Talent Awards.
The awards, held as part of the Montreal International Game Summit, aim to showcase the best of the Canadian gaming industry via seven categories.
Apart from the main winners, as listed below, the awards also honored two industry veterans as the first inductees into the Canadian Gaming Hall of Fame.
Denis Dyack, founder and president of Silicon Knights, was honored, along with Remi Racine, president and executive producer at Behaviour Interactive.
Pierre Proulx, GM for Alliance numerique, said of the awards, "There is so much talent in Canada's game development community that we felt it was important to introduce an award that was dedicated solely to them."
"We are very proud of all these inaugural winners and are looking forward to seeing the entire development community take their game to the next level for next year's awards."
The winners in full are as follows:
Animator of the Year
Aaron Bouthillier (Shank)
Designer of the Year
Kris Piotrowski (Sword & Sworcery EP)
Programmer of the Year
Frederic Blais (Michael Jackson The Experience)
Emerging Talent
Richard Flanagan (Fract)
Audio Professional of the Year

Casey Hudson (Mass Effect 2)
Visual Artist of the Year
Craig Adams (Sword & Sworcery EP)
Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is STILL my pick for 2011 Game of the Year, period. I haven't smiled that much while playing a game in a long time. Major kudos to everyone involved in its development. I'm glad to see them getting individual credit like this, too.
I'm surprised they held the show in a real city, I thought there was a law in Canada that all awards shows must be held in Inookshukwuk, New Brunswick or some other equally impossible location to find on a map.
