Newsbrief: Activision Publishing will release a first-person shooter based on Battleship, the famous guessing/board game from Hasbro, which will be inspired by Universal Pictures' film of the same name debuting in May.

Irvine-based Double Helix, makers of multiplatform titles like Front Mission Evolved and Silent Hill Homecoming is developing the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions that will release in Europe and North America in April and May respectively.

Parisian developer Magic Pockets (Bakugan: Rise of the Resistance, Imagine: Fashion Paradise) is creating "uniquely designed" versions of Battleship for Wii, Nintendo DS, and, Nintendo 3DS, which will release at a later date.

Electronic Arts previously published various Hasbro-licensed Battleship games for Xbox Live Arcade, iPhone, iPad, and the web.

Why in the world are they making Battleship a FPS and not a RTS? This makes no sense at all.

Why are they making a movie based on Battleship?

Sense left the building a long time ago...

They probably should make it a social game instead. FPS still make money, but social is the future.
