U.S. Console Sales Chart – March 2005

The top selling game in the U.S. during the month of March, according to NPD, is still Gran Turismo 4, after more than four weeks on sale. The second-ranked title, the PlayStation 2 version of EA’s MVP Baseball 2005 is also a veteran of the previous month, with the highest new entry being the PlayStation 2 version of Fight Night: Round 2.

Elsewhere in the chart, the Devil May Cry series continues to be Capcom’s best selling franchise of this generation, with the third, highly rated, iteration entering at number four.

There have been similarly strong performances for Star Wars: Republic Commando and Brothers in Arms, as well as Sony’s God of War – although a March 22nd launch date hampered the highly-rated title's bid for the top of the charts this month.

March was perhaps most notable for the launch of the PSP portable console, although its release at the end of the month has seen it have only a modest impact on the all formats chart. As detailed previously, the best selling PSP title was Sony’s Twisted Metal: Head On at number fourteen, closely followed by EA’s Need for Speed: Underground – Rivals at number fifteen and Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade at number nineteen.

With the PlayStation 2 dominating sales, the highest ranked Xbox title is the console-exclusive Star Wars: Republic Commando. The highest ranked Nintendo DS title is Wario Ware: Touched! at number seventeen, with the best performing Game Boy Advance title being Vivendi’s Robots at number twenty. There are no GameCube titles in the top twenty, with the highest ranked game on the GameCube-only chart being Star Fox Assault.
