Round-Up: No HD Revolution, UltraCade Recognized

Today's round-up includes news on HD (or lack of) for the Nintendo Revolution, as well as an award for fast-growing arcade game creator UltraCade, and the latest product news and job postings.

- Nintendo of America VP of corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan has indicated to consumer game site IGN that the upcoming Revolution console will not support high-definition video, unlike the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. "Nintendo doesn't plan for the system to be HD compatible as with that comes a higher price for both the consumer and also the developer creating the game," said Kaplan. The remarks are consistent with Nintendo's current attitude towards high-definition video; though the current GameCube console supports component video cables, and has a number of games that run in 480-progressive mode, no GameCube titles run at the higher-resolution formats of 720-progressive or 1080-interlaced.

- UltraCade Technologies, producers of the multi-game UltraCade arcade machines, as well as the Breeders' Cup Tournament Edition horse racing arcade cabinet, has been listed in Entrepreneur magazine's Hot 100 ranking of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S. UltraCade came in at 48th on the list, which was assembled by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. "We have been fortunate to be able to build a very talented and dedicated team of individuals who are passionate about their work," said UltraCade CEO David Foley. "We have been able to achieve an amazing amount of results from a very limited budget and relatively small team."

- Also updated today: product news including PMTC becoming an authorized Xbox test vendor, as well as the latest industry jobs from companies including Amplified Games, ATI Technologies, Blue Fang Games, Davisville Game Studio Inc, Factor 5, Genuine Games, SkillJam Technologies, Sony Computer Entertainment, Surreal Software, Xfire, 2K Sports, Halifax Engineering, and Visual Concepts.
