Feature: 'GDCTV: Lessons from Viewtiful Joe : Making a Creatively and Financially Successful New Game'

Gamasutra is proud to present GDCTV, a new special feature showcasing streaming high-quality video content of some of the notable sessions of this year's Game Developers Conference. For today's edition, we present Clover Studio's president and CEO Atsushi Inaba's session entitled "Lessons from Viewtiful Joe: Making a Creatively and Financially Successful New Game".

The Viewtiful Joe and Okami creator discusses previous and forthcoming projects at length, and the talk is described on the GDC site as follows:

"It is always a challenge to maintain the balance between creating a great game vs. producing a financial hit, especially with a new IP. As a game developer, the goal is to make a game that is creatively successful. As a producer, the goal is to create a game that is financially successful. Each side has its own ultimate objectives in bringing a new title to the market. Ensuring that these dual goals are achieved can be very difficult.

This lecture will focus on the daunting process of making a creatively and financially successful original game, utilizing three of Mr. Inaba's projects as examples: Steel Battalion, Viewtiful Joe, and the upcoming Okami. These three titles are not only very different from each other, but they also present unique contributions to the gaming world as well."

You can now access the current GDCTV streaming lecture for 'Lessons from Viewtiful Joe: Making a Creatively and Financially Successful New Game' (a brief, free registration process is required if you have not previously registered.)
