Round-Up: New Chris Taylor RTS, Increased Korean PC Use, Frog's Demands Met

Today's round-up includes news of a spiritual sequel to Total Annihilation, statistics on the popularity of video and computer games in South Korea, and a swiftly negotiated adoption for the Crazy Frog, as well as the latest job postings.

- Chris Taylor, director of renowned real-time strategy game Total Annihilation, has announced a new game to be called Supreme Commander, according to the new issue of U.S. games magazine PC Gamer. Developed with his company Gas Powered Games, the project will be a new RTS game building on the foundation of Total Annihilation, though the title is not a sequel. Supreme Commander will feature both an individual battle-level view and a larger scale of all-out war, both of which must be managed by the player.

- A study from the Korea Research Center suggests that South Korean students are choosing to spend more of their free time at the computer, playing games or surfing. 39.3 percent of responding students said that they used their free time to play games or use the Internet. In addition, 85.6 percent of students visited PC rooms (often used for MMO playing) an average of 4.18 times per month, and 74.2 percent of students visited video game rooms/lounges an average of 3.57 times per month, according to the survey, showing the power of games among the young in South Korea. The survey counted 27,650 respondents from primary, middle, and high school students across the country.

- Wallaroo Licensing's bid to sell the gaming rights to the Crazy Frog character have found success in record time, as German publisher dtp has announced plans to make a Game Boy Advance game featuring the ringtone mascot. The game is scheduled to be released during the holiday season, with a corresponding marketing campaign to back it up. Furthermore, Wallaroo says that the GBA title is part of a "platform comprehensive game concept," so more Annoying Thing-related news may be looming on the horizon.

- Also updated today: the latest job postings, including positions from 2K Games, 7 Studios, FarSight Studios, Idol Minds, NaturalMotion Ltd, NCsoft, Nvidia, Playlogic, Resource Management Group, and Sony Computer Entertainment America.
