Round-Up: Marvel's Digital CCG, Penny Arcade's Non-Digital CCG, Romero's Non-CCG

Today's round-up includes news on Konami's new licensing of a Marvel CCG into console form, official confirmation of the new Penny Arcade-licensed offline CCG, and a new George Romero-licensed zombie title, as well as the latest product news and today's Gamasutra job postings.

- Konami has secured the license to Upper Deck's Marvel Trading Card Game, based on the comic book superheroes. The Marvel game draws on Marvel's entire character lineup, which Konami will also have access to for planned offline and online versions of the trading card title. Currently, the only other companies with a license to use multiple Marvel properties are Microsoft, for its planned 2007 MMORPG, and Electronic Arts, for this fall's Marvel Nemesis: The Imperfects fighting game. " When combined with Konami’s experience in developing successful video games based on trading card properties, this will give consumers a powerful new way to interact with some of their favorite Marvel characters, especially as the online community expands," said Konami Digital Entertainment CEO Kazumi Kitaue. No target platforms or release dates were mentioned.

- In other collectible card game news, Sabertooth Games, developers of the Warhammer CCGs, have announced an upcoming deck based on game-based comic Penny Arcade. The Penny Arcade game will feature the entire cast of the comic, including minor characters, and will be compatible with the company's Universal Fighting System, which will enable players to use the Penny Arcade cards against cards from other universes published by the company, including the upcoming Soul Calibur decks.

- Groove Games and Universal have announced Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green, a horror game based on this summer's George Romero film. The game will cast the player as a human struggling to push through waves of zombie hordes on his or her way to Fiddler's Green, the safe haven established in the film. The title is one of a recent spate of zombie games, such as Capcom's Dead Rising, Evil Dead: Regeneration, and even a competing game sanctioned by Romero: George A. Romero's City of the Dead, whose status is currently in limbo following the demise of Hip Interactive.

- Also updated today: product news including Quazal's announcement of its networking middleware for the Sony PSP, Nvidia's release of its SIGGRAPH presentations and FX Composer update, and the latest Gamasutra job postings, including newly updated positions from companies such as Amaze Entertainment, Blue Fang Games, Concrete Games, Cryptic Studios, Disney Buena Vista, High Impact Games, inXile Entertainment, Pandemic Studios Australia, Point Of View, Rainbow Studios, Rockstar San Diego, Screenlife, and THQ.
