Round-Up: IGN Live, Flipcode Closes, Perfect Dark Novels

Today's round-up includes more information on the IGN Live consumer event, the unfortunate end of the line for game development site Flipcode, and news on Greg Rucka's new Perfect Dark-licensed tie-in novel, as well as the latest product news and Gamasutra job postings.

- Soon after CNET announced its GameSpot-tied G.A.M.E. event series comes the ticket availability notice for IGN Entertainment's IGN Live event, which has a similar focus on gaming lifestyles. Unlike G.A.M.E.'s promise of bringing a "mini-E3" to enthusiasts, IGN Live will revolve around events more peripheral to gaming: the shows will feature live DJs, a game trailer theater, gaming tournaments, and a Q&A with game developers and publishers, which will offer sessions on breaking into the industry co-sponsored by the Game Developers Conference. [The GDC, like Gamasutra, is a property of the CMP Game Group.] IGN Live will be an annual event, debuting at the Anaheim Convention Center from October 22-23.

- Flipcode, a veteran website devoted to game development tutorials and other in-depth game code-related information, has announced the end of its operations. A final message from founder Kurt Miller, posted to the site's front page, reads "I would personally and sincerely like to thank everyone who's contributed positively to the site and surrounding community. This site couldn't possibly have grown to what it was in its prime without your help. […]I genuinely hope you enjoyed your stay at flipCode, and wish you the best of luck with your future adventures." The forums will remain active, and the site's archive of articles will also remain intact.

- Tor Books has announced that it will publish three books based on the Perfect Dark universe, soon to see the light of day again in Rare's Xbox 360 sequel Perfect Dark Zero. The first book in the trilogy will be written by Greg Rucka of "Queen & Country" fame, and explore main character Joanna Dark's backstory, including her initial training as an agent. Perfect Dark: Initial Vector will be released in paperback on October 4th, roughly a month before the Xbox 360's launch.

- Also updated today: product news including Mythic's signing of Ageia's PhysX technology for Warhammer Online, as well as the latest Gamasutra job postings from companies including 3D Realms, Activision/Infinity Ward, Blue Fang Games, CMP Media, Datascope Recruitment, Factor 5, Harmonix Music Systems, Mad Doc Software, Merscom, Pandemic Studios, Rare Limited, Sony Online Entertainment, The Art Institute of California-San Diego, and THQ Studio Australia.
