Round-Up: New Clancy Games, RPI Game Jam, Game Mag Circulations

Today's round-up includes news on the latest in Ubisoft's Tom Clancy serie, news on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's first Inter-Collegiate Game Jam, and the latest news on video game magazine subscription numbers, as well as recent GameSetWatch posts and today's Gamasutra product news and job postings.

- Ubisoft has announced a set of new games under the Tom Clancy license: one in the Rainbow Six series, and one in the Splinter Cell franchise. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Critical Hour, a new game for Xbox and PlayStation 2, will advance the running storyline through the Rainbow Six games by retiring the John Clark character. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Essentials, the first game in the series for the PlayStation Portable, seems to feature a mix of old and new content in a storyline about series protagonist Sam Fisher's past, with flashbacks to previous games in the series.

- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will host the first Inter-Collegiate Game Jam from January 28-30th. Teams of four will have the opportunity to compete in a game design challenge taking place over the three days, with judging handled by all participating teams once the contest is over. The Game Jam is open to any student or recent graduate of an accredited college or university, and will be open to registration until January 27th. Those interested can sign up at the Game Jam website.

- Gaming weblog Joystiq has reproduced Mediamark Research Inc.'s figures on circulation for several of the top game-focused magazines in the U.S. The largest circulation of those shown is Game Informer, with 2,036,751 subscribers, partly due to its status as a free discount card sign-up bonus at GameStop/EB locations. After that, Electronic Gaming Monthly has 549,165 subscribers, Official Xbox Magazine has 409,206, GamePro has 406,257, PSM has 322,958, PC Gamer has 261,989, Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine has 254,369, and Computer Gaming World has 206,923.

- Over at Gamasutra's recently launched sister game weblog GameSetWatch, new posts include an analysis of new interviews with board game designers, a look at a new 'game almanac', and the obligatory 'Sledding Cats' web game.

- Also updated today: product news including Khronos' announcement of its OpenKODE Initiative, and the latest Gamasutra job postings from companies including Archimage, Blizzard Entertainment, Epic Games, Point Of View, and Pronto Games.
