With a sudden improvement in hardware stock, the Xbox 360 has enjoyed its most successful week in the UK top forty since the console’s launch. New title Dead or Alive 4 has entered straight in at number one – an impressive feat for console with such a small user base, even during an otherwise quiet retail period.
With Torino 2006 Winter Olympics the only other new entry at number thirty-eight, virtually all the other significant movement in the chart his week is related to the Xbox 360. Call of Duty 2 has risen further up the top ten, with the Xbox 360 version accounting for 78 percent of all sales of the game.
Project Gotham Racing 3 has risen seven places to number nine, with Perfect Dark Zero up thirteen places to number fourteen. Monolith’s first person adventure Condemned, meanwhile, has re-entered the top forty at number eighteen.
The release of Dead or Alive 4 and the new availability of hardware has in essence worked as a mini-relaunch for the format in the UK, although the Xbox 360’s real test will come amongst more concerted competition in the coming months.
