Capcom Acquires Cosmic Infinity To Expand Mobile Division

Capcom has entered into an agreement to acquire mobile game publisher and developer Cosmic Infinity Inc., a move which further strengthens Capcom's relationship with mobile carriers. Cosmic Infinity holds several mainstream entertainment licenses, including North American mobile rights for the popular Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, as well as ESPN Poker Club, Shade, and Rocket Bowl.

As part of the agreement, Cosmic Infinity Inc. will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Capcom USA, Inc. and the company's management team and key employees will sign employment contracts with Capcom Entertainment. The employees from the Cosmic Infinity group will continue to be based in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Cosmic Infinity president Dave Dies commented: "Cosmic Infinity is extremely excited to be joining the Capcom team. Capcom has an amazing history in the video game industry punctuated with some truly classic characters and memorable brands. With our pooled resources and extensive experience in mobile game development, we intend to continue Capcom's tradition of compelling gameplay in the mobile arena."

Midori Yuasa, general manager and senior vice president of the Mobile and Interactive Media Division added: "This acquisition provides us with the resources necessary to achieve our strategic goals and further elevates our position within the mobile space."

The acquisition is the latest move by Capcom to establish a presences within the mobile gaming market. In November 2005 the company established its Capcom Entertainment Mobile and Interactive Media division, which as since published several games based on Capcom's intellectual properties, including 1942, Ghost n' Goblins, Mega Man, and Resident Evil: The Missions.
