Pixel Toys launch, mission to make high-end games for
mobile
New developer and publisher Pixel Toys formed by Activision
and Codemasters vets Alex Zoro and Andrew Wafer will focus on
delivering first class entertainment for global gaming audiences on
tablet, mobile and handheld.
Warwick, UK, Monday 17th December 2012:- Today Pixel Toys
announce their arrival onto the independent development scene and
outline their intention to deliver mobile, tablet and handheld
games at the technical and visual cutting edge of game development,
leveraging the considerable and complementary experience of its
founding team.
Andrew was a chief game designer for Codemasters before moving
into brand and creative management at the publisher, and worked on
dozens of titles including Prisoner of War, Overlord and the
original Operation Flashpoint series. Whilst Alex started his
career as a programmer at Rare, working on both Perfect Dark titles
before leaving to co-found developer FreeStyleGames, since acquired
by Activision, and was Technical Lead on the critically acclaimed
DJ Hero games.
Alex commented “After finishing DJ 2 I felt the timing was
right for a change; and seeing the potential of smartphones and
tablets it was clear to me that there’s a huge opportunity to
create completely new and unique products tailored to the
platform.”
Both game developers have over a decade of experience making hit
games for systems like Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, and with
Pixel Toys decided to turn to mobile games in the hope of
addressing a larger audience.
Andrew said “We’ve seen explosive global growth in
sales of smartphone and tablets, hardware which is capable of
delivering graphically rich experiences and is getting
significantly more powerful with each iteration. We believe the
time is right for us, the technology is there, the audience is
there”.
Alex added “We understand that the gameplay needs to be
tailored to the platform and the way mobile audiences want to play
and spend, and we want to use our experience to bring graphically
high-end experiences with deep and accessible gameplay to wider
audience than possible on home consoles today.”
The company is in the process of building a core team of highly
talented games developers to help deliver their vision of world
class mobile entertainment, and has plans to grow significantly in
the New Year.
Alex added “We will make beautiful, engaging entertainment
experiences that consistently surprise and delight. It’s not
enough just to make games, I know from experience you have to make
the very best games in that genre or space to be successful.
We’ve got open positions on the team and want to hear from
anyone who shares that mind-set.”
The company currently has two projects in active development,
the first for handheld to be completed early next year and the
second for mobile and tablet. Andrew noted, “Both games are
very different, but have one thing in common; they’ll meet
our high standards for gameplay and polish. We’re use to
seeing new companies in this space make grandiose claims of what
they’ll deliver, especially around the quality, but we know
we’ve got the experience and the vision to make good on our
promise and whilst we fully understand the world will reserve
judgement until our games break cover, we’re very confident
in what Pixel Toys will produce.”
