[This unedited press release is made available courtesy of Gamasutra and its partnership with notable game PR-related resource GamesPress.]

Schein is a brand new indie platformer - so brand new, that it is actually still in development. But the final release is near, and you won't want to miss it! There's no need to wait however – download the free Dev-Demo to get a short taste of Schein and experience the unique game mechanics! Our Dev-Demo is continuously being updated throughout our development and version 0.3.2 is available as of March 29 th.

And if you’re eager to see our full potential, mark the 5 th of May on your calendar, for that is when our crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo will begin! Wouldn’t it be exciting to publish this game together?

Set in the middle of a glum and murky swamp, Schein takes you on the perilous journey of a desperate father, who is grieving for his lost son. Wandering aimlessly through the swamp, he keeps reaching dead ends and hope is slowly fading. Just as the darkness threatens to swallow him completely, a glimmer of hope appears in the form of a ghost light named “Irrlicht”. As the Irrlicht's glow touches their surroundings, the world slowly begins to change, transforming it into an altogether different place. Through this beautiful metamorphosis, the man can now follow paths that had not been visible before.

Step into the young man’s soggy shoes, entrust your life to the witty little Irrlicht and discover the dangerous secrets of the swamp. Learn to solve puzzles and trigger mechanisms, to overcome obstacles and continue your perilous journey through the darkness. Shed the Irrlicht’s light on your surroundings to uncover new realities and find hidden paths, which lead you deeper and deeper into the swamp. But beware, numerous ancient spirits guard the spluttering muds and make your chance of survival dreadfully slim!

Schein began as a student project at a university in Vienna (Austria) in early 2011. After finishing the prototype, it seemed like such a waste to just let this amazing idea die, so the small team of developers have dedicated their time to create the real thing. Uniting forces with the amazing sound team Leed:Audio, this Austrian-German production by Zeppelin Studio has evolved into a promising startup, which is frequently compared to Limbo and Braid.

The final game, to be released in Q2 2013, will feature 12 levels guarded by 4 fierce monsters, plus many secrets and bonus stages, which you may discover. Schein is currently being developed for Windows PC and requires a DirectX9 capable graphics card. Apart from the conventional keyboard, the Xbox 360 controller is supported as well.
