London based games company F3D have implemented their own WebGL
Realtime 3D engine delivering content direct to the browser in
seconds, without any plug-ins required. They are proud to say that
Whilst there has been allot expectations from HTML5 there have
been few decent titles released, and fewer still using WebGL,
although there are a number in development. Cimmerian Space is now
on Kickstarter, they have demoed early game content and are raising
money for more game features and photographic characters. So the
race is on to be at the vanguard of WebGL games.
Whilst the gameplay may be similar to Star Citizen, fighting and
trading your way through a 3D universe, its a much lighter engine,
and it aims to run on an average laptop, following the trend for
users to move away from desktops onto laptops and mobile devices.
They hope that now Google has teased WebGL content on Chrome Beta
for Mobile, that they can develop a touch version that will run on
your tablet in the near future.
They are also trying to distinguish themselves from the mass of
flash based games, by using colourful photographic characters to
represent the crew of your ship. Like Firefly or Farscape, your
ship will have exotic aliens, sexy space vixens, and battle
hardened mercenaries that you can assign as Captain, Pilots,
Gunners or Engineers. Each Crew member unlocks its own mission arc,
with unique loot and content.
Check them out on Kickstarter ...
