For immediate release: Monday 7 April

Dare to be Digital is inviting students and game developers to take over Twitter this Wednesday 9 April, from 9-10pm, for the first ever #darehour question and answer session.

For an hour, the team behind Dare to be Digital will be joined by previous contestants to answer questions from students preparing their applications for this year’s competition.

The deadline to apply to Dare to be Digital 2014 is 9am on Monday 21 April – applications should be made at

Elaine Russell, Dare to be Digital Project Manager, said: “With the 21 April deadline for applying to Dare to be Digital getting close, we’re inviting every previous Dare contestant and mentor to take part in the first #darehour session.

“We’ll be live on Twitter from 9-10pm this Wednesday 9 April, sharing tips for students preparing their applications, and hearing from many of the supporters of Dare to be Digital about why this contest is unique.

“Dare is the only way to get nominated for a BAFTA Ones to Watch Award, so the next two weeks are crucial for anyone wanting to get spotted by the games industry.”

Hosted and run by Abertay University, hundreds of students every year apply to Dare to be Digital to build a working game prototype in just eight weeks. An expert panel picks 15 teams of five students to take part in the contest.

The games then go on show to the public and to industry experts in Dundee in August, with three winning teams picked to compete for the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award.

Previous Dare to be Digital winners include Sophia George, who is currently the V&A’s first ever Game Designer in Residence.

Individuals wanting to apply – and teams needing extra members – can contact other applicants through the Dare to be Digital website.

Applications close at 9am on Monday 21 April – applications should be made at
