The Dr. Panda franchise recently surpassed 40 million installs, making the company the third largest developer of paid kids apps worldwide on iOS—and largest  independent developer—according to Q4 2014 rankings by the app analytics firm App Annie. 

Based on the company’s original IP, the Dr. Panda franchise provides important life skills by helping children understand and get familiar with the world around them. Dr. Panda games go beyond academic skills to deliver educational value by simulating real-life activities such as working in a restaurant, shopping in a grocery store, or growing a vegetable garden. All games in the Dr. Panda franchise feature a kids-safe, gender-free environment with no in-app purchase options, no third-party advertisements and no inappropriate content.

After receiving $750,000 in seed funding in 2012, the company quickly became profitable and has grown at a compound annual growth rate of over 100% the last two years. Because its games offer universal appeal and do not rely on language or text to advance the gameplay, they are enjoyed by children around the globe. Dr. Panda is the #1 kids app publisher in the company’s home country of China, and it is among the top 10 kids app publishers in dozens of other countries worldwide, with its largest install base coming from the United States. The company currently employs 45 people and plans on expanding into other areas including toys and animations.

A report by market research firm Ambient Insight predicts that educational games will become a $2.3 billion industry by 2017. Meanwhile, a study published last summer by Oxford University found that children who play games for up to an hour per day tend to be more social and satisfied with life than kids who don’t play any video games at all, underscoring the important role games can play in children’s development.
