[This unedited press release is made available courtesy of Gamasutra and its partnership with notable game PR-related resource GamesPress.]

7th September 2010: Supermassive Games TM today announces details of a deal with FL Interactive, the online arm of The Football League, as part of a major marketing campaign supporting the launch of exciting new football title ‘Big Match Striker’. The deal forms a key part of a campaign that will run over the coming months, driving football fans to download the free PC game and join the community at www.bigmatchonline.com.

The deal with FLi promotes the game and the brand to core football fans via FLi’s managed portfolio of 82 football club websites. This includes branding of the Player Profile and Squad/Team sections across websites of eight Premier League, Championship and League 1 & 2 club websites.

The wider marketing campaign includes promotions on national football websites, leading fan-run sites, football print titles and adverts across a myriad of sites represented by Sportsyndicator. There is a fully integrated PR and social media campaign handled by Boom! In total the campaign will set out to reach around eight million football fans every month over the next 12 months.

Geraint Orchard-Bungay, Supermassive Games TM Online Publishing Director, commented: “The commitment shown by Supermassive Games to Big Match Striker by undertaking such an ambitious marketing campaign underlies our belief in the game. We have focused our attention on the core football fan and the grassroots of the game.”

Matthew Harrison, Business Development, FLi, commented: “We’re very pleased to have agreed this deal with Supermassive Games and to help launch what is an excellent and exciting new style of football game. It’s exactly the type of challenge that any hardcore football fan will relish so we look forward to spreading the word about Big Match Striker at clubs all over the country.”

Big Match Striker, due for its official launch in September, is aimed at football fans of all ages, testing their tactical and strategic skills and their football knowledge. Players enter competitive leagues, answering both historical and constantly-updated questions on the 92 clubs.

About Big Match Striker

Big Match Striker is a free-to-play downloadable PC football game where fans battle head to head in the ultimate championship of tactics and trivia. Players succeed in the game by answering a selection of both constantly updated and historic football questions from English football’s top four tiers, keeping the game concurrent with the real-life action. Players can win possession and tackle the opposition by responding quicker to questions, requiring a good level of football knowledge and quick thinking.

The reward for winning matches is gaining fans and in-game currency. This can be strategically used to buy players, upgrade stadiums and even install hot dog vans to attract more fans and progress to the league’s higher echelons.

Players will need to combine all the skills of chairman, manager, player and fan as the title blends the best in football management strategy and animated trivia games. The exciting new title is highly competitive and will challenge all levels of football fans’ knowledge and strategic skills as they battle in one-on-one leagues to meet the game’s main objectives - to win titles and silverware, and attract more fans to their club.

Player interaction is a key aspect of the game experience. The game’s main entry point and community will be hosted online and will contain regular news and features from the game’s editorial team, weekly podcasts with lively chat and debate on the game’s latest talking points and discussion forums for players to interact with each other. The initial game download and subsequent updates will be available from the game website, www.bigmatchonline.com
