David Wehle's Blog
David Wehle is a hobbyist game developer who started his career in the TV/film industry. His love for making games started with making mods and levels for Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, where he was part of the Massassi.net community (which is still around somehow). He's a big fan of story-driven games like Dear Esther and The Novelist.
I took the more difficult route of being a one-man dev/marketer for my fox adventure game, and it went better than I thought. Here's what I learned.
Working full-time while making your game is probably the new norm, and there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day. However, these three tips helped me finish my first game and are now helping me with The First Tree.
The variety of responses to Tale of Tales' departure had me thinking about the tension between gamers and game developers, and how an art history lesson relates to all of this.
Although a lot of valuable advice still stands today, the Greenlight process is much different than it was even a year ago. The floodgates are opening, and now mostly anybody can get Greenlit without any prior marketing or fanfare.

The 50k number from Valve really surprises me. I 'm not sure what they 're referencing when they say feature, but my game was on the New and Trending tab for 5 days with only 12k wishlists at launch. Maybe you need 50k for a main capsule feature

I still feel entertaining is one-sided towards fun . I don 't think the film Schindler 's List or the game That Dragon Cancer are entertaining, but they 're engaging works that people still want to participate in and view.

Very useful info, thanks for the post. One thing though: I believe gif size doesn 't matter much with Twitter since their max size is 15MB and they convert all gifs to video anyway under the hood. I upload 15MB gifs all the time max frame rate is 40 FPS ...
