The Differences Between Video Game Marketing and PR

by Logan Williams on 06/26/18 10:21:00 am

The following blog post, unless otherwise noted, was written by a member of Gamasutra’s community.
The thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the writer and not Gamasutra or its parent company.

In the video game industry, many professionals have used the terms "marketing" and "PR" interchangeably in major industry presentations, which can cause confusion for newer industry professionals that are actively seeking support for their games.

With that being said, I've put together an introductory video that goes over the differences between the tasks you would typically see a marketing team doing vs what a PR-focussed team would do. This includes specific tasks, specialties and goals that are associated with the terms "marketing" and "PR".

I hope this video helps teams better identify the right individuals and studios to partner with.
