A little over a year ago I started on an independent game development adventure with Zenzizenzic. I began with knowing virtually nothing on coding or anything that goes hand in hand with game development. The following describes what I've learned.

Without any practical knowledge on game design and development, except for what was garnered over the course of 15-20 or so years of playing games, I set out to build a game myself. I didn't know a damn thing, except for what feels right and what doesn't.

We need to start thinking beyond merely adding a layer based on extrinsic motivators with gamification and look more closely at what makes games interesting and learn from it.

This essay concerns an exploration about the relation between social games, meaning giving practices, rewards, immersion and a ten feet long pole. This relation leads to the conclusion that there is still a large horizon to explore for social games.

It's almost as if they listened to my blog post about Zynga haha. But of course I was merely voicing a common sentiment. Nonetheless, it is nice to see that Zynga is attempting to add new dimensions to their social games.
