Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality: New Reality for the Gaming Industry

With the help of AR/VR technology, they can easily develop such games that make gaming experiences more interactive and compelling and allows gamers to real-time experiences like fighting with aliens, defending kingdoms, capture fantastical creatures, and much more.

Rising Popularity of Gaming Application

Gaming application has gained huge popularity these days among users. Around 65.31% of U.S audiences using one or another gaming application for relaxing themselves and for enjoying the newer experience. 

According to a Statista report, Gaming applications are one of the most popular apps among users based on availability, there are around 25% of gaming app available on the leading Apple app store for users to download, also this app category has the highest user engagement, in June 2016, it was found that 88% of digital gaming time by the users is created by using one or the other application on their smartphones. 

During the survey it was also found that Clash of Clans was the top-grossing gaming app during May 2019, it generated around U.S. dollars 1.54 million revenue per day, the average price for most of the popular and paid applications has amounted around 49 cents, whereas the average app price has amounted around one U.S. dollar. According to MediaPost users spend around 90% of their time using various applications, from which 50% of applications are gaming applications. It was also found that one-third of all gamers belong to the age of 45 whereas 19% belong to the age group of 34-44 and almost 21% belong to 25-34, which simply means that around 65% of gamers are younger. As the ratio of gamers is increasing day by day the gaming industry has introduced various applications using advanced technology like AR/VR. Pokemon GO

Most of the players are familiar with the Pokémon Go, this popular game was published by Niantic on July 6, 2016, it was developed for iOS as well as Android users using augmented reality technology. The engagement of more players enabled Pokemon GO to reach new heights of success and earn high revenue. It is expected that this popular AR game will reach around 636 million U.S. dollars in revenue. The main goal of developing this game was to create awareness about Augmented Reality technology among millions of people.

This VR game was released worldwide on October 11, 2016, first for PlayStation 4 and then for Microsoft Windows on April 25, 2017. 

Batman: Arkham VR adventure game is based on one of the famous DC Comics superheroes Batman. Batman: Arkham series cannot be played without virtual reality headsets, this adventure game allows players to experience the real world from Batman's perspective. (Source)

This Augmented Reality game was developed for mystery lovers. Gamers can easily play this game outdoors as well as indoors. It takes gamers on an adventurous journey, they will feel like they are searching the Treasure in ancient Shiva Temple. 

Users can play this game alone or can invite their friends to play this adventure game. They can even choose their roles from the available option of treasure protector and treasure hunter. When they go with treasure protector option they have to create treasure trails whereas while they go with hunter option they have to discover the treasure. 


Minecraft is developed by a Swedish game developer named Markus Persson and was released successfully by Mojang in 2011. These games facilitate players to build a variety of different blocks that too in a 3D procedurally, players can easily generate the new world as per their preference. They need to create blocks, apart from those various other activities like exploration, combat, resource gathering, etc are available for the players. Zombie GO

Developing Zombie games using the latest technology is really a great achievement for the gaming industry, this achievement is just similar to crafting an uber clone app solution that used the same technology which was used by business giant Uber. Zombie GO is an outstanding example of Augmented Reality shooter games. This AR game offers zombie experience to the players by bringing it to the real world. While playing these game players feel that there are zombies surrounding them all the way they go whether it may be school, park, home, or any other place. Then the adventure begins when the players have to choose weapons of their choice to kill the Zombies around them.

The Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) market size worldwide has increased at lightning speed. According to a Statista report, it was found that AR/VR market has reached around 16.8 billion U.S. dollars by 2019, the number is expected to grow more in nearby future as most of the gaming industries have started using this advanced technology for enhancing the experience of the players. 

The gaming industry is always trying to serve the best to the users. They are using the latest technologies so that the users can experience that they are in new worlds and environments. VR and AR technology is a boon for the gaming industry as it has opened new ways for them to enhance the overall experience of the players. Mobile gaming is also one of the best ways to create awareness about AR/VR among people.
