Jean-Christophe Baillie's Blog

Jean-Christophe Baillie is a scientist and entrepreneur. He holds a degree from the École Polytechnique in Paris where he studied computer science and theoretical physics. He did his PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Université Pierre & Marie Curie in co-supervision with Luc Steels at the Sony Computer Science Lab in Paris.

He founded the ENSTA ParisTech Robotics Lab where he worked on developmental robotics and computational evolutionary linguistics. While at ENSTA, he designed the urbiscript programming language to control robots, which became the base technology of Gostai, a robotics startup he created in 2006, which was acquired by Aldebaran Robotics in 2012.

In January 2014, Jean-Christophe founded a video game development studio called Novaquark. The company is at work on Dual Universe, a continuous single-shard sandbox MMORPG taking place in a multi-planets Sci-Fi world, focusing on emergent gameplay with player-driven in-game economy, politics, trade and warfare. Players can freely modify the world by creating structures, space ships or orbital station, giving birth to empires and civilizations.

In 2016, the Dual Universe Kickstarter was the third-largest worldwide video game campaign on the crowdfunding platform.
