John Kane's Blog



John Kane is a game designer and programmer working for the past five years under the name Gritfish. Gritfish is best known for the sci-fi narrative Killing Time at Lightspeed and cute puzzle game Mallow Drops. His games have featured at the IndieCade festivals in Paris and Los Angeles, been awarded multiple Australian Game Developer Awards and were short-listed for the Best Australian Game ("Across The Ditch" Award) at New Zealand's PlayByPlay festival. John has also been working in web development for the last ten years, and wants to help cross pollinate the web's accessibility with games potential for inclusiveness.

Almost 80% of players use subtitles in games. But game subtitles are often sub-par: too small, hard to read, or otherwise unusable. I decided to see what it takes to make subtitles that don’t suck.

I 'm not skilled enough in Unity, unfortunately That 's why I released all the research for it so people could make their own as easy as possible.
