Sarah Herzog's Blog

 

Hiya! I’m Sarah, and I’m a game programmer. I’m sometimes known around the internet as Jiyambi. I’m originally from the USA, but moved to Scotland to study for an MSc in Computer Games Technology from the University of Abertay.  After that, I worked for a few years at Ninja Kiwi Europe as a programmer. Now, I make my own games with my indie team, Bounder Games.

I’ve had a colourful journey into the world of game development, with brief stops in the fields of chemical engineering, education, and information technology. I love bringing these diverse experiences into my work.

In addition to game programming, I'm a writer in my free time and keep a blog over at jiyambi.blogspot.com. It covers all sorts of subjects, but primarily focuses on the games industry from both a player and developer standpoint. In indie development, we often talk about "wearing many hats". It means we have to take on a lot of different jobs. What we don't say is that that we might not like or even be good at them!

I 'm extraordinarily lucky to work for a game company that allows me to create and release my own projects, but many companies specifically forbid this. Even so, I am finding it increasingly frustrating ...
