Zuby Ahmed's Blog

 

A games developer with over 25 years games industry experience, including freelance writer for Edge magazine and numerous design roles at companies such as Digital Image Design, Warthog Games and Pivotal Games. Design successes include the critically acclaimed ‘Starlancer’ published by Microsoft, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ published by Universal Interactive, and ‘Battlefield Modern Combat’ published by EA. In 2006 Zuby founded SmashMouth Games; the focus of which is to create ‘pick-up and play games’. The company has had critical acclaim with numerous products, including the iOS Number One title, Russian Dancing Men, released in 2011. Zuby is also a successful lecturer in Games Design and Development; over the last 10 years he has taught at numerous universities and colleges around the North West of England. Currently Zuby is an Associate Professor, managing a successful set of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes at Birmingham City University's Gamer Camp. These include MSc Videogame Enterprise, Production and Design, as well as the fourth 2-year fast-track course he helped to create, BA(Hons) Videogame Design and Production. Zuby has taught graduates who have gone on to have successful careers, working for companies which include Sony, Ubisoft, TT Games and Rockstar North.​ Zuby also works in Research and Enterprise within the University, having recently designed and co-founded the set-up of the ‘[email protected]’ initiative, as well as developing a PhD in Games Design, examining how videogame developers and their audiences work together, using processes of videogame design and development to create affective videogames.​ Zuby is also a UK STEM Ambassador, working with Schools and Colleges to facilitate and promote new technologies and design processes.
