General Game Design
Writers Guild nominee Anne Toole is a writer, designer, and life-long gamer whose credits include computer games, television drama, comics, and short fiction. Anne provides story development, narrative design, and dialog writing services that help players have more fun.
With a penchant for telling stories with a light tone and a dark underbelly, Anne has brought her unique voice to games in narrative genres such as science fiction, fantasy, horror, and comedy. She has contributed to a variety of game genres, from MMOs to action, for almost every platform, including console, PC and Facebook.
Anne started her career in television and has worked in syndication, cable, broadcast primetime and daytime. After writing for DAYS OF OUR LIVES, she was hired away as Head Writer for the MMO based on the STARGATE SG-1 series. She then earned the Writers Guild nomination for her work on THE WITCHER, a dark fantasy RPG. Most recently, she wrote ROCK OF THE DEAD, a horror/comedy rhythm game voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, for 360/PS3.
Anne has spoken on the future of entertainment at the inaugural Nokia OpenLab 2008 as well as on game design at South by Southwest, the ION Game Conference, and Comic-con International. She also served as the Mentorship Chair for the IGDA Women in Games SIG. She has been featured in "Written By," the Writers Guild magazine, as well as on Examiner.com.
Aside from her creative writing, Anne has contributed over 200 blog posts on working with writers, writing and designing games, and virtual collaboration at the Writers Cabal Blog. She wrote about working in a team and serious games for two books, WRITING FOR VIDEO GAME GENRES, 2009 and PROFESSIONAL TECHNIQUES FOR VIDEO GAME WRITING, 2008. Anne graduated from Harvard with an ever-so-useful degree in Archaeology. She also studied abroad in Egypt under Kent Weeks shortly after he discovered KV5, the tomb of Pharaoh Rameses' sons.
Anne is originally from the East Coast and currently resides in West Hollywood beside litigious neighbors. Born in France, she holds both EU and US passports. When she's not writing, she researches subjects like addiction, the Puritans, and business management, in no particular order.
