GDC Adds LocoRoco Postmortem, Iga On 2D, Id On Piracy

The organizers of Game Developers Conference 2007 have announced more notable lectures for March's conference, including Tsutomu Kouno presenting a postmortem of LocoRoco, Castlevania's Koji 'Iga' Igarashi discussing the 'Light and Darkness of 2D Gaming', and Id boss Todd Hollenshead talking on games and the piracy problem.

Specifically, Kouno's lecture on LocoRoco is called 'A LocoRoco Postmortem: Making Happiness into Gameplay', and his talk is described as follows: "Can you make a game that is pure happiness? The director of LocoRoco, Tsutomu Kouno, explains how he tried. His talk takes the audience through the path of the gane's development, from brainstorming the creative concept, selling it to Sony, and building it level by level."

Next, Konami's Koji Igarashi is presenting a lecture named 'Light and Darkness of 2D Gaming', described as follows: "In today's industry where 3D games dominate the market, Konami's award-winning producer Koji Igarashi will give his first-ever public lecture about the advantages and disadvantages of creating 2D games, using his experience developing the recent and highly-acclaimed Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin video game for Nintendo DS as a case study."

Finally, Id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead has a lecture posted named 'The Videogame Piracy Problem: Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest', described thusly: "This session will discuss the state of the piracy problem the game industry faces, paying particular attention to the impact Internet piracy has on the PC game industry. Todd's experiences battling pirates and hackers over the past 10 years as CEO of id Software offers lessons in what to do, as well as what not to do in best protecting your company and game assets from those that fly the Jolly Roger."

This comes after two other major sets of additions to the line-up, with the most recent adding Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond on Assassin's Creed, Rare discussing Viva Pinata's unique graphics shaders, and Elite Beat Agents' Keiichi Yano on making the cult DS title. Previous to that, another announcement revealed lectures by Killer 7's Goichi 'Suda51' Suda, Lionhead's Peter Molyneux, and a rare postmortem of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII), and the conference has been announcing other major new sessions via its GDC News blog.

Further major announcements on the Game Developers Conference 2007 (which is created by the CMP Game Group, as is are expected over the next few days.
