The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced the final nominees for its 10th annual Interactive Achievement Awards. According to the company literature, a record number of titles were considered by the AIAS team of over 300 judges, and there are 30 total categories for which games can be considered.

Gears of War is at the top of the heap with ten nominations, including consideration for overall game of the year, console game of the year, outstanding achievement nominations for animation and art direction, and others. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion saw eight nominations, Zelda: Twilight Princess garnered six, Wii Sports gathered five, and Guitar Hero 2 received four.

Notably, some handheld games broke out of the children's game of the year and handheld game of the year stigmas, with Brain Age taking multiple nominations in other fields, including outstanding innovation in gaming. Also interestingly, Sega's Virtua Fighter 4 was nominated for console game of the year, but not fighting game of the year.

Nominations for overall game of the year included Gears of War, Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Guitar Hero 2 and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Computer (PC) game of the year nominees included Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Company of Heroes, Battlefield 2142, Prey, and Age of Empires III: The Warchiefs.

Console game of the year nominations are as follows: Gears of War, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Guitar Hero 2, and Virtua Fighter 4. Interested parties can view the AIAS' official site for the full list of nominations.
