Confirming
earlier reports, major publisher and developer Electronic Arts has confirmed that the company's forthcoming
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is being developed by Florida based EA Tiburon (
Madden NFL), adding that the game will feature notable user-generated content.
Much of the game's added features will come thanks to a new online system, tentatively called GamerNet, which will make its debut with the release of
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, Nintendo DS, and PC, though what versions will take advantage of GamerNet remain unknown.
Specifically, the system will add two new features to the game, notably the ability to save and post gameplay content online for others to compete against for points, as well as the ability for players to generate realistic characters "with no artistic skill required, by uploading photos."
The latter feature, dubbed Photo Game Face, will also build upon the series' already deep customization options by allowing players to further customize their characters with clothing and other accessories. It is as yet unclear whether these features will appear across multiple EA franchise titles.
The addition of
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 to EA Tiburon's repertoire builds upon the studio's significant portfolio. Tiburon is currently responsible for several of EA's annual franchises, including
Madden NFL, as well as
NCAA Football and
NASCAR. In addition, the studio was also responsible for the disappointingly received video game adaptation of the recent
Superman Returns movie.
