The offices of Prey developer Human Head Studios have been partially destroyed by fire in the company's historical building in Madison, Wisconsin - although with no reports so far of injuries thanks to the night time start of the blaze.

According to a report by local news source Channel 3000, the blaze was reported at around 2.30 am CDT with flames reported from the roof of the multi-use building on Commercial Avenue. The former railroad roundhouse includes warehouses and office buildings for multiple companies, including Human Head.

The fire is believed to have started in the rear storage area of the building, with damage estimate at around $750,000. A business owner unrelated to Human Head was interviewed by WISC-TV and indicated that damage to the front of the building was relatively mild. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Human Head Studios was founded in 1997 by a number of veterans of Raven Software, which is also based in Madison. Human Head has previously produced titles such as Rune and Dead Man's Hand, but their greatest success has been with 2006's first person shoot 'em-up Prey for 3D Realms.

Human Head announced in February that it would be partnering with Marc Ecko Entertainment, a newly founded dedicated video game production house subsidiary of Marc Ecko Enterprises (who previously helped create Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure with developers The Collective) to develop a unannounced next-gen game for yet-unspecified consoles.
