Officials from Nintendo have announced details of the company’s second quarter financial results, with a raft of impressive figures, including a 144 percent increase in profits and a rise in full year estimates that exceeds analyst predictions.

For the six months ended September 30th, the company saw net sales increase by 132.5 percent to ¥694.8 billion ($6.09bn). Operating income rose by 181.3 percent to ¥188.8 billion ($1.65bn) and net income was up by 143.7 percent to ¥132.4 billion ($1.16bn). The company now lists total financial assets of ¥1.66 trillion ($14.55bn).

Breaking the sales down by region non-Japanese sales accounted for 77.9 percent of total revenue, with the Americas generating ¥267.9 billion ($2.35bn) in revenues, Europe ¥246.1 billion ($2.16bn) and the rest of the world ¥27.0 billion ($237m).

The company also detailed hardware sales over the last sixth months, with the Nintendo DS now having sold 53.64 million units worldwide since launch. 19.71 million of the console have been sold in Japan, 16.06 million in the Americas and 17.88 million in the rest of the world. A total of 13.35 million Nintendo DS were sold worldwide in the last six months alone.

Nintendo puts the global total of the Wii at 13.17 million, with 3.67 million sold in Japan, 5.46 million in the Americas and 4.04 million in the rest of the world. A total of 7.33 million consoles were sold during the last six months.

In terms of software the Nintendo DS has sold 259.48 million units worldwide since launch, with 20.01 million sold in Japan in the last six months, 24.40 million in the Americas and 31.09 million in the rest of the world.

The Wii has sold 65.81 million units of software since launch, with 5.77 million sold in Japan during the last six months, 19.00 million in the Americas and 12.20 million in the rest of the world.

Particuarly strong sellers noted over the last six months were Pokemon Diamond/Pearl on the Nintendo DS, which sold 6.95 million copies worldwide for a current lifetime total of 12.17 million. Combined sales of Brain Age 1 and 2 sold a total of 5.19 million units in the last six months for a lifetime total 17.19 million. For the Wii Mario Party 8 sold 2.89 million units worldwide.

As widely anticipated the company has raised its full year forecasts, with net sales predicted to hit yen;1.55 trillion ($13.59bn) for a net income of ¥275.0 billion ($2.41bn). This actually exceeds analyst predictions yesterday of a rise to ¥273.4 billion.
