The UK’s busiest week of new releases so far this year has seen a number of new entries in the top forty, with Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4
topping both the individual and combined format charts. Despite originally having been announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, 61 percent of sales were on the Xbox 360 – a slighter larger proportion than most other recent multiformat releases.
The second highest new entry of the week is the Nintendo DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
at number two. The Wii version falls ten places to number fourteen, but in a rare snippet of sales information Chart-Track indicates that the game managed to sell half a million unit in its first seven weeks, despite stock problems.
With the PlayStation 3 version of Devil May Cry 4
at number four, the fourth highest new entry of the week is PDC World Championship Darts 2008
for the Wii, from local developer and publisher Oxygen Interactive. The PlayStation 2 and PC versions of the game were released three weeks ago, during the televised darts championships, but to little sales success. The Wii version though is by far the biggest hit yet for the company.
Also new at number six in the charts is the Xbox 360 version of Turok
, with the PlayStation 3 version at number eight. Reaching number three in the multiformat charts, 58 percent of sales went to the Xbox 360 version overall and 42 percent to the PlayStation 3 version.
Other new entries in the top forty include budget priced Nintendo DS title Professor Kageyama’s Maths Training
from Nintendo at number fifteen, with the Xbox 360 version of Sega and Bizarre Creations’ The Club
at number seventeen and the PlayStation 3 version at number twenty-two.
The Xbox 360 version of Eidos’ first person shoot ‘em-up Conflict: Denied Ops
is at number twenty-one, with the PlayStation 3 version at number twenty-four. The Wii version of Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
, not released in Europe until now, debuts at number thirty-three and PC title The Sims: Castaway Stories
is at number thirty-eight.
Overall the Wii still has the largest number of titles in the individual formats chart at thirteen, with the Xbox 360 on nine, the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 3 on eight and the PC on two. As has been the case for several weeks there are no PlayStation 2 or PSP titles in the top forty.
