Interplay Bringing Fallout, MDK, Descent To GameTap

Interplay Bringing Fallout, MDK, Descent To GameTap

June 2, 2008 | By Brandon Boyer

Subscription based PC game delivery service GameTap has announced a new expanded partnership with publisher Interplay that will see a number of Interplay's classic titles brought to the service, including cult RPG franchise Fallout, due for free-play release this summer.

GameTap says the extended deal will also see the addition of Descent and MDK, as well as "new and previously featured titles, such as the Earthworm Jim series," added to the subscription service, the ad-supported free-play section, and made available for sale on the service's storefront.

In April, Interplay noted that it planned to resurrect several of its properties, including all of those mentioned in the GameTap deal. Shortly thereafter, the company said it would be bringing Earthworm Jim and Clayfighter to the Virtual Console, and was planning new games and cartoons for Earthworm Jim.

Said Interplay CEO Hervé Caen, "GameTap continues to be a great partner for Interplay by offering expanded opportunities for revenue after the initial retail window has closed. This licensing deal is a good example of how Interplay is leveraging its library of intellectual properties. The company will continue to either reinvent some of those properties by developing them into new versions or sequels, or by partnering with an existing leader like GameTap, where the original titles can live on."
