Grasshopper Licenses Unreal Engine 3 For EA Horror Title

Grasshopper Licenses Unreal Engine 3 For EA Horror Title

October 7, 2008 | By Eric Caoili

No More Heroes-developer Grasshopper Manufacture licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 for an upcoming action-horror game to be published by Electronic Arts for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

The as-yet unrevealed game is produced by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and directed by Grasshopper head Goichi Suda, aka Suda51.

The project came as a result of a new studio deal with EA Partners, which was brokered by Q Entertainment (Lumines).

Not much else has been disclosed about the planned title, other than that the developer intends to make a "mysterious, very unique horror-packed action game" -- though Gamasutra did quiz the duo about the title when it was recently announced.

According to Suda, Grasshopper chose Unreal Engine 3 because it enables the creative team to "create games faster, easier, and with less risk."

“It’s an honor to work with Mikami-san and Suda-san on their next project,” says Epic Games vice president Jay Wilbur. “Grasshopper Manufacture is one of the most daring and innovative studios in the world, and we can’t wait to see what they’re able to do with Unreal Engine 3."
