UK-based developer Blitz Games Studios claims that Sony will introduce support for stereoscopic 3D games and Blu-ray movies on the PlayStation 3 in 2009.
The news was reported by the website of stereoscopic 3D certification and advocacy group 'Meant to be Seen' (MTBS), although no official comment on the technology has ever been made by Sony.
Blitz Games CTO Andrew Oliver claims that, to support the technology, the PS3 requires only a “BIOS upgrade”
, something which MTBS suggests may be unique to the PS3.
Blitz Games unveiled their 3D middleware technology
for the first time earlier this month, where it was demonstrated on both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The company says that it's able to "replicate the full HD 3D experience" seen in 3D theatres, and predicts a rise in popularity for 3D televisions.
"Spread the word. 3D gaming on console is coming and we license the tech," says Oliver in the MTBS article.
