Representatives from Infinium Labs, makers of the Phantom game delivery system, have announced that Kevin Bachus has been named chief executive officer and appointed to the company's board of directors, effective immediately.

Bachus has previously served as the company's president and COO and succeeds former CEO Timothy Roberts, who will continue to serve on the board of directors. Bachus is notable as one of the four original pioneers of Microsoft's Xbox console, when he was group product manager for the company's DirectX technologies. He then became director of third party relations for Xbox, before leaving Microsoft to help set up the short lived Capital Entertainment Group video games production company.

"Infinium Labs is entering a new phase where it must remain tightly focused on the nuts and bolts of bringing our service to market," said Roberts. "While the company has accomplished a tremendous amount already, the Board saw the need for a major change that would consolidate operations and reinvigorate the organization."

At the same time the company also announced that it is "consolidating" its corporate operation to Seattle, where Bachus is based, effective immediately, transitioning away from the company's former headquarters in Sarasota, Florida. "Tim Roberts and the other founders of this company had a unique vision for a streaming game service that would bring entertainment directly into the living room," Bachus said. "The entire company is passionately dedicated to that concept, and over the past year the industry has joined us in validating our mission. I intend to move swiftly to assemble the missing pieces needed to bring the Phantom Game Service to market."

Little has been heard about the future of the Phantom project since an interview with Bachus in February, when he indicated that the console was still scheduled for a launch before the end of 2005 - despite mounting losses for the company, various legal disputes and poor word of mouth. A new announcement is promised regarding the company's restructuring in the "next few weeks".
