The organizers of the 'Walk Of Game' display at Sony's Metreon entertainment complex in San Francisco have announced the nominees for 2006's Walk of Game categories, and revealed that voting for the 2006 awards is set to start on the
official Walk Of Game website on October 1st. The deadline for voting is October 31st, and winners will be honored at a ceremony in early 2006.
As with last year's event, the top two creators and the top four games and characters will be inducted into the 'Walk of Game' at the Metreon with a 24x24 inch brushed steel star. Lifetime achievement nominees for the 2006 Walk Of Game are John Carmack (
Doom), Peter Molyneux (
Populous, Fable), Sid Meier (
Civilization, Pirates!), Toru Iwatani (
Pac-Man), and Will Wright (
Sim series).
Game and character nominations include
Castlevania, Civilization, Donkey Kong, Doom, EverQuest, Final Fantasy, Fox McCloud (
Star Fox),
Frogger, Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life, Lara Croft (
Tomb Raider),
Madden NFL, Mortal Kombat, Myst, Pac-Man, Pitfall Harry (
Pitfall),
Pong, Quake, Resident Evil, Samus Aran (
Metroid),
Space Invaders, StarCraft, Street Fighter II, Tetris, and
The Sims.
In
2005's ceremony, held alongside Game Developers Conference last March, Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of
Mario Bros. and
The Legend of Zelda) and Nolan Bushnell (co-founder of Atari and creator of
Pong) became the first recipients of the Lifetime Achievement award, and Master Chief (
Halo), Link (
The Legend of Zelda), Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog also received stars on the Walk Of Game.
