Walk Of Game 2006 Voting Enters Home Stretch

October 21, 2005 | By Simon Carless

The organizers of the 'Walk Of Game' display at Sony's Metreon entertainment complex in San Francisco have announced vorting so far for 2006's Walk of Game categories, which officially closes at midnight PST on October 31st.

As with last year's event, the top two creators and the top four games and characters will be inducted into the 'Walk of Game' at the Metreon with a 24x24 inch brushed steel star, and gamers have been voting throughout October.

Thus far, the top two creators are John Carmack (Doom, Quake) with 47.1% of the cumulative online and write-in votes and Will Wright (Sim series) at 43.2%, followed by Sid Meier (Civilization, Pirates!) at 40.6%, and Toru Iwatani (Pac-Man) with 40.3%.

The games and characters category is also hotly debated, with the top four subjects currently EverQuest with 36.4%, Final Fantasy with 27.6%, StarCraft with 24.9% and Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) with 23.9%, closely followed by The Sims, Tetris, Pac-Man, Civilization, Doom, Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life, Resident Evil, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat and Pong. Voting will continue on the official Walk of Game website until October 31st.

In 2005's ceremony, held alongside Game Developers Conference last March, Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda) and Nolan Bushnell (co-founder of Atari and creator of Pong) became the first recipients of the Lifetime Achievement award, and Master Chief (Halo), Link (The Legend of Zelda), Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog also received stars on the Walk Of Game.
