- PopCap Games has announced at the MacWorld Expo that it will make its games available for download play on Apple's Macintosh computers for the first time. Customers will be able to download Bejeweled 2
, and Zuma
, which were previously available on Macs only through web portals that offered online editions of the games. "The Mac is a popular gaming platform and Mac owners are among the most ardent consumers and creators of entertainment content," said PopCap chief creative officer Jason Kapalka, "so we're excited to have our top games fully optimized for Tiger."
- Cinemaware Marquee, the newly established
independent games arm of Cinemaware, has announced Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators
as its first PC title to be released in North America. A critical favorite in some circles, with publications such as NetJak.com proclaiming it one of the 20 greatest games of all time, the title was developed by the Russian studio 1C/Elemental Games. "Our goal is to bring gamers consistently incredible content, so that when they see our logo, they are 100% confident about the quality of the game they are getting," said eGames VP of product development Lars Batista. "Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators
lays the foundation for that vision."
- Glu Mobile has announced a mobile phone game based on the Jamaican Olympic bobsledding team, previously immortalized in the John Candy vehicle Cool Runnings
. The game will offer an arcade mode for simply achieving high scores, and a championship mode where the obstacle is to guide the Jamaican team to a gold medal. "With the winter Olympics only a month away, fans are anxiously awaiting their favorite events, and the Jamaican Bobsled
