Representatives from newly founded publisher Gamecock have announced that it will be publishing Dementium: The Ward for the Nintendo DS, a previously unannounced title from newly formed Austin-based developer Renegade Kid.
Renegade Kid is an authorized Nintendo DS developer specializing in the creation of titles for Nintendo's popular handheld.
While Dementium represents the studio's freshman effort, the team members, led by co-owners Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove, have collectively worked on more than twenty published titles, including Aspyr' Stubbs the Zombie, Midway's Area 51, and Namco's Sigma Star Saga.
Described as a hybrid of action adventure, first-person shooter, and survival horror gameplay, Dementium casts players in the role of a man who “awakens to find himself alone in a mysterious, derelict hospital that is frozen in time.” According to Renegade Kid, the company holds high expectations for the project, going so far as to claim its 3D visuals will “set the bar for mature handheld games.”
“Renegade Kid is looking to move above and beyond what most games are attempting on the DS, and with Gamecock we’ve found a publisher who is supportive, developer friendly, and willing to give us the freedom to create the game we want,” said Jools Watsham, owner and creative director at Renegade Kid. “Dementium showcases what a powerful piece of hardware the DS is, while drawing in a mature crowd that’s looking for a title they can really sink their teeth into.”
