Speech technology solutions and interface provider Fonix Speech has announced that it has joined Nintendo's Tools and Middleware Program for the Wii, giving developers access to Fonix’s VoiceIn Game Edition and Fonix VoiceIn Karaoke Edition voice recognition technologies.
Fonix VoiceIn allows game developers to add voice recognition to video games without needing to develop specific speech technology expertise. Fonix VoiceIn is available in multiple languages, including English and UK English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Italian and Korean.
Additionally, VoiceIn Karaoke Edition is specialized VoiceIn voice recognition technology for the karaoke genre that reports on the timing, pitch and accuracy of the karaoke singer’s voice.
Apart from the Wii, Fonix’s cross platform tools are also available for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PC. In 2006, the company also joined
Epic Games’ Integrated Partners Program for Unreal Engine 3, allowing its VoiceIn technology to be integrated within the popular game development platform.
Commenting on this latest coup for the middleware company, Fonix Games VP Tim K. Hong noted, “Now Wii title developers can add Fonix’s award-winning voice recognition to their games. VoiceIn allows for new and interesting player interfaces via voice commands, while VoiceIn Karaoke makes it possible to increase the accuracy and quality of karaoke games.”
