Konami has achieved its second Japanese number one video game in three weeks, again sports-related, with the release of J-League Winning Eleven 2007: Club Championship
The release is only a relatively minor one in the series, though, and unlike the core numbered entries in the series will not be adapted for release in Europe as part of the Pro Evolution Soccer
series. Nevertheless the PlayStation 2 game achieved impressive sales of 150,000 in an otherwise quiet week for new releases.
With few new titles to challenge them, most of the major releases from the previous week recorded strong second week results, with Mario Party 8
sales dropping from 265,000 in its debut week to 135,000 this week. Meanwhile PlayStation 3 game Minna no Golf 5
(aka Hot Shots Golf 5
/Everybody's Golf 5
) fell from 152,000 units to 64,000.
Square Enix's A Wonderful World
actually maintained its chart position from its debut week, but saw sales drop from 77,000 to 33,000 units. With the other new releases from last week disappearing from the top ten, the chart has seen the return of other more familiar titles such as Wii Play
at number seven, New Super Mario Bros.
at number nine and Flash Focus: Vision Training
at number ten.
The only other new entry in the top ten is what roughly translates as Face Training
- a Touch! Generations title created in collaboration with a Japanese beauty expert and bundled with a face scanning camera. The title entered only at number eight with 22,000 units sold, but since Touch! Generations games rarely experience explosive debuts the overall success of the title is currently impossible to estimate.
Elsewhere in the top thirty the only other major new entry is Nintendo's Forever Blue
(aka Endless Ocean
) for the Wii, with a disappointingly low entry at number fifteen.
