Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week ending January 20th, following details of the software top thirty
Falling a little faster than equivalent software sales, the hardware numbers this week are down for all the major formats, although the Wii has retaken second place from the PSP. The best selling console of the week was still the Nintendo DS though, with sales down almost 9,000 units to 88,575.
The Wii saw unit sales drop by nearly 3,000 for a total of 81,638. By comparison, PSP sales fell by over 16,000, forcing the system back into third place despite an almost identical performance in terms of software sales from last week.
PlayStation 3 sales were the steadiest of all the major formats, falling by less than 1,000 units to 38,117. PlayStation 2 sales fell by about the same amount to 13,539. Xbox 360 sales were almost static, down less than 200 units at 4,552.
